Norwood, working for the appointed main contractor CMB Engineering, delivered the cleanroom architectural elements—including specialist ceilings, walls, doors, and glazing—for a 170 sqm cleanroom extension for Paragraf.
This next phase expands their new Production cleanroom facility in Cambridge, further strengthening Paragraf’s advanced materials manufacturing capabilities.
Norwood completed its installation works over a two‑month programme, constructing an area that incorporates an ISO 6 wet deck cleanroom designed to maintain the stringent contamination control parameters essential for graphene‑based technologies and other advanced materials applications.
Why Norwood’s system was the right fit
Paragraf’s graphene production processes demand exceptional environmental stability, high‑performance cleanroom systems, and the ability to adapt as operations scale. Norwood’s Mediline cleanroom system, featuring 50mm and 125mm cleanroom‑grade partitions, integrated steel door sets, and flush glazing, delivered a solution engineered to meet these requirements.
Key advantages included:
- Outstanding contamination control, achieved through smooth, non‑particulating, ISO‑compatible finishes.
- Flexibility for future expansion, allowing partitions and services to be reconfigured with minimal disruption.
- High mechanical durability, suitable for the intensive operational demands of semiconductor manufacturing.
- A fully compatible architectural system, ensuring airtightness, cleanability, and seamless integration with ceiling and plenum systems.
With Norwood providing coordinated design, engineering, and installation support, the cleanroom package delivered a compliant and efficient solution tailored to Paragraf’s specialist needs.
Scope of works
Working under CMB Engineering, Norwood provided complete cleanroom construction and architectural package, including:
- Norwood demountable partition system (50mm & 125mm)
- Norwood steel door sets
- Norwood glazing systems
- Supply and installation of the Norwood metal pan and walk-on cleanroom ceiling
About Paragraf
Paragraf is the first company in the world to mass produce graphene-based electronic devices using standard semiconductor processes. The cleanroom facility will be used for the production of 150mm wafers, utilising Paragraf’s unique graphene on wafer processes. Graphene (a single layer of carbon atoms over 150,000 times thinner than human hair) is now able to be used to revolutionise the performance of next generation electronic devices. Paragraf utilises this modern technology to provide unique solutions in a range of applications, including automotive, industrial automation, consumer, diagnostics and agritech.
