Overview

Norwood completed a project to provide partition walls at an advanced manufacturing factory in Northamptonshire which will support the prestigious motoring brand Aston Martin’s Cognizant Formula One team. The total internal floor area for the completed development is circa 300,000 sqft across three buildings, one housing the team’s design, manufacturing and marketing resource, the second a central hub featuring staff amenities and a logistics centre and the third testing wind tunnel. Working with the architect Ridge and Partners, we delivered the Building 1 with the main contractor McLaren Construction and Building 3 with SDC.

Project Spec

Norwood was responsible for manufacturing and installing 6,500 sqm of bespoke fire and non-fire-rated modular internal partitions across the two buildings. This was in order to separate the various zones throughout the state-of-the-art facility’s advanced manufacturing area and cleanrooms. Achieving all the dB rating specifications, we also installed our glazed partitions along the impressive ‘Street’ in Building 1.

The large-scale project uses made-to-measure Norwood Mediline partitions with a thickness of 125 mm. This was with the purpose of accommodating our innovative, fire rated back-to-back flash dado which allows all electrical services to be hidden in the wall, resulting in efficient use of the space, as well as a clean aesthetic and a seamless, high-quality finish. Norwood undertook several project-specific fire tests, ensuring all technical requirements have been met.

As part of the scope, Norwood installed a range of doors, including automatic and manual sliding doors. In order to house a sliding door weighing half a ton, we integrated the structural steel into our partitions.

Another example of a bespoke solution designed for the project was a pocket wall. Which included an automated, fully glazed floor to ceiling main reception entrance sliding door. The door provides the main entrance for all AMR employees, Sponsors and visitors. Inclusive of an F1 car, the door delivers the showpiece entrance for the whole building. The door tracks and automation kit is hidden within the ceiling and pocket wall, so when in the open position it appears to be a completely clear opening to the main street of the building.

The Building 1 was completed by the site team of 14 in 7 months whereas Building 3 by the team of 6 in 4 months.
